Pool Leak Detection in Wisconsin
Not Sure If Your Pool Is Leaking or Just Losing Water From Evaporation?
Most pools naturally lose about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of water per day due to evaporation, especially during warm or windy weather. However, if your pool is losing more water than that, it could indicate a hidden plumbing or structural leak.
Our technicians can perform professional pool leak detection testing to determine whether the water loss is normal or if your pool needs repair — helping you address the issue before it becomes a bigger problem.

What Is Leak Detection?
Pool leaks are often difficult to locate without specialized training and equipment. In many cases, leaks remain hidden beneath the pool surface, decking, or underground plumbing — slowly wasting water and causing damage over time.
Professional leak detection involves isolating sections of the pool and plumbing system to identify where water is escaping. By pressure testing individual lines, we can determine which areas are compromised. Once identified, we use advanced tools to precisely locate the source of the leak.
Our process may include acoustic listening equipment to detect escaping water underground, dye testing to identify cracks or gaps in pool surfaces and fittings, and tracer gas testing to locate leaks beneath concrete or soil. These methods allow us to find leaks that are not visible to the naked eye — even those several feet below ground.
Leak detection is a highly specialized service. At Lake Geneva Pool And Spa, we use advanced technology and proven techniques to accurately locate leaks while minimizing disruption to your pool, deck, and landscape. This precision helps reduce unnecessary demolition and limits restoration after repairs are completed.
With experience in pool leak detection, repair, and overall pool systems, our technicians understand how Wisconsin’s freeze/thaw cycles, soil movement, and winterization stress affect pools. When you choose Lake Geneva Pool And Spa, you can trust that your pool leak will be located accurately and repaired in the most efficient, minimally invasive way possible.
Benefits of Expert Leak Detection Services
Hiring a professional leak detection company offers significant advantages over trial-and-error repairs:
- Accurate leak location without excessive damage
- Reduced repair costs by fixing only what’s necessary
- Protection from structural damage caused by prolonged leaks
- Lower water bills and improved pool efficiency
- Peace of mind knowing the problem is fully resolved
In Wisconsin, undetected leaks can worsen quickly as water erodes soil or freezes underground, making early detection especially important.
Pool Leak Detection Cost
The cost of professional pool leak detection depends on several factors, including the type of pool, where the leak may be located, and the amount of testing required.
Most residential pool leak detection visits typically range from $300 to $600.
During a leak detection visit, our technicians inspect the pool and equipment, pressure test plumbing lines, and perform dye testing around fittings, skimmers, and lights to locate the source of the leak.
What Can Affect Leak Detection Cost
Several factors can influence the time and testing required to locate a leak:
- Size and type of pool
- Whether the leak is in plumbing lines or the pool structure
- Accessibility of equipment and plumbing
- If multiple leak tests are required
- Whether the pool includes attached spas or water features
Once the leak is located, we explain the repair options and provide an estimate before any repair work begins.
Common Signs You Have a Swimming Pool Leak
Knowing whether water loss is caused by evaporation or an actual leak isn’t always easy. If you own a pool in Wisconsin and notice unusual water loss, the signs below may indicate a leak that needs professional attention.
Below are a few signs that your pool may be leaking:
Your pool is losing more than ¼-inch of water per day
You notice cracks forming in or around the pool deck
You’re frequently refilling the pool to maintain the water level
The ground or grass around the pool remains wet or soggy
Your pool deck is lifting, sinking, or shifting
You see air bubbles or air entering the pump system
F A Q s
Have questions about pool leaks? You’re not alone. These are some of the most common questions Wisconsin pool owners ask.
What are some ways to tell that my pool might be leaking?
If your pool’s water level is dropping faster than normal evaporation, it may be leaking. Other signs include needing to add water frequently or noticing wet or soft spots around the pool, deck, or equipment area. Because freeze/thaw cycles in Wisconsin can cause hidden damage below the surface, leaks aren’t always easy to see. If you suspect a leak, Lake Geneva Pool And Spa can accurately locate the source and recommend the right repair.
Can a pool leak cause damage to my yard or deck?
Yes. Leaking water from underground lines or structural components can erode soil and create voids beneath decks or patios. In Wisconsin, freezing water underground can worsen this damage over time, leading to settling or cracking. Addressing leaks early helps prevent costly structural repairs and property damage.
What are some signs of a pool leak?
- Unusually high water usage or frequent refilling
- Water collecting around the pool, deck, or equipment area
- Soft, sinking, or eroding ground near the pool
- Cracks in the pool surface, coping, or surrounding concrete
- Reduced water flow or pressure from pool returns
- Standing water in areas that normally stay dry

After our initial meeting with Jen, from Lake Geneva Pool, we were very happy to order a fiberglass swimming pool. I was a little apprehensive about tearing up my yard, but Tim and crew did a great job of excavating and delivering the pool to the site. He assured me that floating the pool over the lake was the best way to get it to our lake side spot! (ask him to show you the video) Installation went well, the team did a great job of installing and educating us on care and maintenance of the pool and water. When I saw the enjoyment on the faces of my grandkids, it made it all the more worth it! We are truly thankful that Jen and Tim made the whole process possible. (my yard and patio recovered very quickly) Thanks Jen and Tim!Posted on Mike EldridgeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A truly wonderful experience. I receive prompt replies that reflect a customer first attitude... they have been servicing my pool for two years. I wish I would have had their expertise for installation but regrettably had gone with a different company not knowing about LG Pool and Spa.Posted on James DeLucaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My review of Lake Geneva Pool and Spas has spun up and down to say the least. Failed few fittings under concrete as a pool owner on my 3rd year of the pool was a heart breaker. After watching his service crew today in action, it was huge sigh of relief. There is definitely a failure that is likely caused by something a miss.. natural land settlement thru frost cycles or defective fitting molds or winterizing efforts from a slew of items like fittings or a severe winter cold and no snow cover. It is possible these leaks might explain why year 2 we were chasing on keeping the pool full so much. Adding so much well water may be the next challenge for keeping pool chemicals where they belong. It was a lot. Of course they came to air test, seen it failed and left. A little miscommunication made it seem he was unable to fix this, too busy or simply due to his frustration as an installer not wanting to see this happen and saying something that made us pool owners feel that we had to hunt people to fix this on our own probably spun interpretations in what he meant in a wrong direction. Hence I went into over-drive before my busy work loads to find a contractor to help. Today's fix cleared all that after a good long talk.. This is a tough thing for any in-ground pool owner to face, because it creates a level of anxiety on how real bad this is and could become. Good comforting communication should keep those interpretations clearer. To my surprise Tim was on this immediately. As much as he disagreed that I pre-excavated the three potential points of interest that needed to be done. It saved a ton of time. His service guys were hard working and kept humor going as they fixed one leak to find another to find another. All is fixed and now and I get the fun to back fill, and get my decking back to normal. One super smart thing he pushed hard on at the build and PROVED itself this spring, even though it was more costly than I cared for and I thought was an upsell scare tactic, was to use tile versus concrete. Whether Miramar Stone, Uni-Loc pavers, or what ever, they peeled up real easy for me to get investigating on this versus waiting for a leak detection service to arrive mid spring to late summer. Th huge plus is you can reuse those stones or pavers and things will be back to normal quickly and a little touch up of backfilling material.
